Welcome to the Year 6 Web Page

Welcome to the Summer Term in Year Six, which, for many of you, will be your last term at Carnarvon Primary.

Initially, our primary focus is preparation for the SATs tests in May. The children will spend the first few weeks of term engaged in revision activities and coaching sessions to develop confidence and reassurance for SATs week which is w/c 9th May. Thank you for all your support with homework activities and the encouragement you have given your children if they are attending after school booster sessions.

Once SATs are over, we have a rich and varied programme of learning to look forward to including Sports week, Enterprise week and our residential trip to Dukes Barn.

  • Our new topic for the summer term, 'Food for Life'  is DT based and will involve the children exploring the impact natural and processed foods have on our health and well being. As part of this topic, they will explore the process of bread making and will be designing and making their own bread product.
  • Our Science topic, 'Living things and their habitats' complements 'Food for Life' perfectly; the children will be finding out about the animal kingdom, which includes an in-depth study of microorganisms and their impact in the bread-making process.
  • In Maths, we will be introducing a geometry based topic on the parabolic curve as well as enjoying problem solving activities.
  • Our PSHE topic for this term, 'Growing up', focuses on how we grow and change both physically and emotionally. The children will learn about different types of relationships, including sexual relationships. Please contact your child's class teacher if you would like to look at the teaching resources and materials used in these sessions.

Our end of year production this year is 'The Lion King' and the children have already started to learn some of the songs. Backing tracks and song words are all available on the OneDrive for children who would also like to practise at home. We will be auditioning for the main parts once SATs are over and will let the children know which part they will be playing before we break up for half term.
