Welcome to Year 5!
Our main topic focus for the spring term is 'Sow, Grow and Farm', a Geography topic, which focuses on how farming helps and affects our lives. The children will all be learning about allotments, how land is used in the UK, and farming.
In English lessons, we will begin by looking at non-chronological reports, before moving onto diary entries, then finishing by looking at balanced arguments. We will also be having regular reading lessons where we will continue to build our vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summary skills.
In Maths lessons, we will be continuing to follow the White Rose scheme. Topics to be covered this term include: Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, Perimeter and Area and Statistics . On Fridays we have an arithmetic focused lesson to help improve our calculation strategies.
This term in science covers human reproduction and ageing, where we will be finding out how humans and other animals reproduce, as well as learning about different animal classes and life cycles.
In art, we will learning about expressionism. In DT, lessons are focusing on seasonality, which will involve the children making their own soups. PE lessons will be basketball for the first half term.
