Football at Carnarvon

Bingham and the surrounding area is blessed with a number of local football clubs for both boys and girls, and it has been great to observe increasing levels of participation at these clubs over the past few years. As a result, we are beginning to receive many more enquiries from parents regarding the provision of football here at Carnarvon. Over the course of their time here, children will have a number of opportunities in which to get involved in organised football outside of the curriculum. Detailed below is a summary of the extent of our KS2 provision outside of the curriculum:

Year 3: apart from coaching provided during Sport and Wellbeing Week, there is one football match organised for a limited number of children (12 max) against Robert Miles Junior School.

Year 4: Our Year 6 Sports Ambassadors (alongside Mr Hall) offer lunchtime football over the course of a term in the form of our annual Friendly Football League. This is available to any boys and girls in Year 4 who wish to take part. There is also a competitive match (boys) against Robert Miles Junior School, where we play for the annual Alex Munn Trophy.

Year 5: Once again, our Sports Ambassadors organise a Friendly Football League which is run over the course of 7 weeks. Competitive football is limited to a few ad hoc matches between local schools, where time allows. Unfortunately, there are no (Year 5) leagues or cup competitions for schools in the Rushcliffe area. Depending upon the size of the Year 6 squads, there may occasional opportunities for some Year 5 children to play ‘up a year’.

Year 6: There is a busy programme of football in Y6 for both boys and girls. At the end of Year 5, trials are held for both the boys and girls, with the intention of selecting a squad for our most competitive tournaments and matches. They also provide us with opportunities to select a much wider squad for inclusion in other matches that we may be involved in.

The football calendar for both boys and girls is as follows:

  • Friendly Football League (lunchtime event)
  • Ruddington Autumn Tournament (a squad of 8 children playing 5 x 6-minute games)
  • Ruddington Spring Tournament (same format as above)
  • County Cup (knock-out competition)
  • Rushcliffe Cup (knock-out competition)
  • Rushcliffe League (6 games played over the course of a season)
  • Sports Week matches versus Robert Miles Junior School (for the Gilbey Cup)
  • Additional friendly matches played against local schools

It is our aim to give every willing child the opportunity to represent their school at least once during their time here at Carnarvon.

CARNARVON V ROBERT MILES - MAY 2025

Robert Miles 1 - 1 Carnarvon (Year 3)

Robert Miles 1 - 2 Carnarvon (Year 4)

Two fantastic games played this week over at Robert Miles. Closely fought and incredibly entertaining, the boys played some wonderful football; a fitting spectacle for an event where the Year 4s competed once again for the Alex Munn Memorial Trophy.

EDWALTON V CARNARVON BOYS - MAY 2025

On Friday, the boys’ football team played Edwalton Primary. It was an extremely close match, with lots of chances for both teams. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to score this time, and the match finished 0-1 to Edwalton.

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT

Two wins, two defeats and a draw was a good morning’s work for our girls last Saturday in a tight league and some tough opposition. Well done to all involved.

RUSHCLIFFE CUP FINAL

Carnarvon 2-3 Edwalton

This really was a fantastic game to watch or be involved in: two evenly matched sides playing some excellent football and scoring some wonderful goals. The girls should be immensely proud of themselves, including other players that played their part in getting the team to this stage. Well done indeed girls. Heads up - it’s Robert Miles next!

YEAR 5 BOYS v CROPWELL BISHOP - MAY 2025

On Monday afternoon, the Year 5 boys played against Cropwell Bishop Primary.  The first half was extremely close, but a great strike from Beauden and an unbelievable save from Oliver put the boys 1-0 up at half time. After the break, the boys played some excellent stuff, and goals from Harry H, Max and Jake cemented a 4-0 win.  ‘Player of the Match’ was awarded to Seth, who again showed his determination all game long. Noah, Harry S, Lucas and Louis also put in great performances and all of the boys should be proud of their efforts!

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT - MAY 2025

A lovely sunny Saturday morning for a football tournament and our Year 6 boys did themselves proud.  Always short, tight games in these events: they won two, drew two and lost one, conceding just the one goal in total.  It wasn’t enough to see them into the semis, however they were a credit to both their parents and their school in the way that they conducted themselves both on and off the field.

Well done boys!

FOOTBALL NEWS - APRIL 2025

Carnarvon v Willowbrook

The Year 5 boys travelled to play Willowbrook on Thursday evening.  The boys did incredibly well, playing some beautiful passing football and were the better side against a team full of Year 6s.  The boys were very unlucky to lose 4-3, but can be really proud of their performances.  ‘Player of the Match’ was awarded to Beauden, who scored a great hat-trick, including a wonderful solo goal.

CHESS TOURNAMENT - APRIL 2025

On Thursday 3rd April, children from chess club were invited to play in a small tournament against teams from Langar Primary and Aslockton Primary.  The children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were once again a credit to the school.

Out of the 8 teams in the competition, Carnarvon A team came 1st and Carnarvon C team came 2nd. Special mentions to to Yelena and Harry as both children scored a clean sweep by winning all 3 of their games.  Well done also to Dylan for winning 2 and drawing his other on his first chess outing for the team.  This was great preparation for the larger competition on Saturday 26th April, here at our school.

FOOTBALL NEWS - MARCH 2025

Carnarvon Boys 3 - 0 St Edmund Campion

Some great football played by our Year 6 lads, who always looked in control of this one.  Finishing as deserving winners, they’ve now booked their place in the semi-final of the County Cup - congratulations!

Carnarvon Girls 0 - 3 St Edmund Campion

A mirror image of the previous game: the opposition controlled this one. It was a physical game at times and despite Carnarvon matching Edmund Campion on this front, it was a fair result.

Carnarvon Boys 5 - 3 Willowbrook

In many ways, this was one of the best games of the season: the whole team were making their school debuts and they delivered a thoroughly entertaining game for the vocal home support!  A first-half hat-trick from Max (the smile never left his face from that point!) and two other goals scored by Harry and Henry made plenty of goalmouth action, for the home team in particular.  It was a hugely satisfying experience for all involved.  A re-match is certainly on the cards…

The Year 5 boys had their first game of the year on Thursday evening against a strong Radcliffe side.  In what was a very even game between two good sides, Radcliffe took their chances well and ran out 4-1 winners, but the Carnarvon boys can be proud of their performances.  Player of the Match was Seth, who had a solid first display in defence.  The boys have 4 more games this year, starting next week against Robert Miles.

NETBALL FESTIVAL - MARCH 2025

Carnarvon girls played their first netball tournament of the year on Wednesday at NGHS. There was some tough competition, but the girls played well, and finished in fourth place, winning their last match by a landslide!

Well done to you all.

FOOTBALL NEWS - MARCH 2025

Radcliffe 3 - 2 Carnarvon Girls

Another tight game for our girls - this one didn’t go their way on this occasion, but a great game to be involved in nonetheless. Goals from Ava and Sophia had the game at 2-2, but a late goal from Radcliffe sealed their win.

Radcliffe (B) 0 - 1 Carnarvon (Y4/5)

Girls from Years 4 and 5 made their school debuts in this friendly, and the future looks rosy; they played with confidence, as a team, and in good spirit, finishing as deserving winners. Plenty of chances were created, but it was Poppy’s goal that clinched their well-deserved victory.

MULTI-SKILLS FESTIVAL - MARCH 2025

Some of our children attended a Multi-Skills Festival at Nottingham Trent University yesterday.

They played a variety of team games along with other schools, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Well done to everyone who took part.

COUNTY CUP QUARTER-FINAL - MARCH 2025

Carnarvon 2 - 2 Radcliffe

(Carnarvon won 2-1 on penalties)

A last minute equaliser for Carnarvon and a victorious penalty showdown at sunset last Friday evening was a lovely way for the girls to finish off their school week. It was a hard fought victory against strong opposition; the girls deserve great credit for their resilience and tenacity, right up until the final whistle.

Congratulations girls!

YEAR 4 FOOTBALL FESTIVAL
On Monday, a team of 10 children from Year 4 played in a 'Football Festival' in Beeston. They played 4 matches in total, winning each game without conceding a single goal. There was lots of brilliant teamwork on show and the children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A special mention goes to Florence, who was awarded 'Player of the Festival' for the Carnarvon team (nominated by opposition players after each game).  Thank you also to Mrs Loran for being a super Assistant Coach, and to the parents for transportation help.

CARNARVON V ABBEY ROAD

Abbey Road 2 - 2 Carnarvon Girls

(Carnarvon win on penalties - again!)

What a week for our girls as they yet again battled their way through a match to the semi-final of the Rushcliffe Cup!

2-0 down with 10 minutes to go, yet somehow they wrestled their way back into a game that finished 2-2. With no further score in extra time, it was penalties once again.  On Friday, 6 penalties were needed to decide a winner; against Abbey Road, it needed 20!  A magnificent team performance, though a special mention to Issy; not only scoring a penalty of her own but making a number of penalty saves too!

FOOTBALL NEWS - FEBRUARY 2025

Carnarvon 0 - 2 Jesse Gray

An excellent game of football last night in the Boys Rushcliffe Cup in a match that was very evenly balanced and played to a high standard. Despite a battling performance from our boys, it was perhaps a deserved victory for our opponents. Plenty more matches to come though, boys!

SWIMMING GALA - FEBRUARY 2025

Huge congratulations to all the children who took part in the County Gala swimming event at Hucknall Leisure Centre on Wednesday.  We are very pleased to announce that we won the whole event.

A special mention to Heidi Cavan’s Mum, Olivia, who was a brilliant team manager.  Thanks also to all the parents for supporting, and the kids for being so brilliant!

CROSS-COUNTRY - FEBRUARY 2025

A bitterly cold Friday afternoon for 55 Carnarvon runners who were taking part in events of well over 200 entrants per race.  Many children were experiencing competitive running for the first time - a real baptism of fire, given the weather and huge numbers.  Anyway, it worked out well for them all, as the organisers - Nottingham High School - treated the children to a giant cookie at the end… and then it was the weekend!  Happy days!

Heidi and Freddie were medal finishers in their Year 5/6 races, and our Year 6 boys claimed gold in their team event.

Thanks once again to the parents who were in a position to support the event with transport to and from the venue - it is very much appreciated.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT - FEBRUARY 2025

On Monday, a group of basket-ballers participated in a multi-school basketball tournament.  They did incredibly well, dominating the scoreboard for most of their games.  Well done to those who took part! James C, Oliver C, Freddie H, Rufus B, Ethan E, Liara S, Emmie H and Evelyn E.  A big thank you to Mr English for organising it -  for most of the children, it was their first ever basketball match!

ATHLETICS FINAL THE BRAVES - FEBRUARY 2025

Congratulations to ‘Carnarvon Braves’ on another enjoyable evening of Sportshall athletics this week, finishing joint 5th in the final - just a few points off the top three - was a very respectable achievement and a just reward for their efforts in training and the earlier heats.  Well done all of you!

SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS - JANUARY 2025

An entertaining evening of indoor athletics on Monday where Year 6 children took part in long jump, triple jump, chest three, javelin and speed bounce as well as a variety of team relays. Seven teams were present on the night: Carnarvon ‘Aces’ finished 2nd, whilst the ‘Braves’ were 5th (though a mere 5 points off 3rd.

A great performance all round; both teams now go into their respective finals in the next few weeks.

Thank you again to the parents involved in transporting the children - it makes organising these events so much easier for us.

MULTI-SKILLS FESTIVAL - DECEMBER 2024

On Monday some of our Year 4 children attended a Multi-skills Festival at South Notts. Academy.  They thoroughly enjoyed taking part in all the fun activities and problem solving together.  Four other schools attended and Carnarvon joined them in a final, whole-group ‘rock, paper, scissors’ game that was brilliant.  As usual, all of the children who attended were fantastic role models and they enjoyed every minute.

Well done!!

MULTI-SKILLS FESTIVAL - DECEMBER 2024

On Tuesday, Oscar, Kal, Henry, James, Mila and Sam from Year 2 all enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon at a multi-skills festival.  They had happy smiles, a team spirit and thought of lots of creative ways to have fun using the equipment.  The team all agreed that using Brussels sprouts instead of an egg, in an egg and spoon race, was a great game to play at Christmas time!

Well done to everyone who took part!!

INDOOR ROWING FESTIVAL - NOVEMBER 2024

On Wednesday, Celeste, Harriet, Eliza, Martha, Harry, Josh, Marcus and Oliver from Year 6, showed amazing team spirit when they took part in an indoor rowing event.  The children worked in relays, taking turns to row, and all improved their fitness and skills over the session.  They were a credit to Carnarvon and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  A big 'thank you' to Josh's and Harry's parents for helping out with the transport!

PACEBALL - OCTOBER 2024

On Wednesday, Amaia, Isaiah, Marlee-Jax, Violet, Vinnie, Logan, Olivia and George from Year 4 took part in a Paceball event.

The children enjoyed an introduction to paceball, which is a fast-paced ’invasion’ game based on several key skills, including teamwork, passing, communication and movement.  The game is unique as the pitch is oval-shaped, and points can be scored from anywhere within the playing area.

All the children had an amazing time!

FOOTBALL NEWS - OCTOBER 2024

Abbey Road 0 - 5 Carnarvon

A small pitch dictated a compact game of quick, flowing football.  An early goal from Carter was the ideal start, with James and Carter (again) adding further goals before half-time. Carnarvon are playing some lovely football at the moment and Ronnie’s wonderful free kick was no more than both he - and the team - deserved.  The goal of the game though came from Rowan, playing goalkeeper on his debut for the school, kicking the length of the field, over their goalkeeper and into the net!

A great team performance and now into the next round of the Rushcliffe Cup.

Carnarvon Girls 10 - 0 West Bridgford

Whilst these were two very mismatched sides, it was wonderful to see our girls keeping their shape and playing very much as a team throughout with some lovely flowing football. Great credit also goes to the opposition, who battled valiantly despite Carnarvon’s dominance. For the record, five goals from Y5 debutante Bella (wow!) four from Sophia and one from Evelyn. Well done girls

GIRLS’ FOOTBALL RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT - SEPTEMBER 2024

On Saturday, the girls’ football team attended the Ruddington tournament. The girls played some lovely passing football, scored lots of goals and kept a clean sheet in every game! winning 3 and drawing 2. Unfortunately, this was not enough to make it through to the next stage. The girls showed true determination and skill and did the school proud.

FOOTBALL NEWS - SEPTEMBER 2024

Ruddington Tournament

Our Year 6 boys were in action last Saturday for their first football of the season.  The 8-minute games are always a bit tight and tense, but the boys finished with a very creditable second place in the group stage with 2 wins, 2 draws and a single defeat.  A good start to the season!

Boys’ County Cup: Carnarvon 9 - 3 West Bridgford

On Monday, the Year 6 boys played their first full competitive match of the season against the team that defeated them in Saturday’s tournament; that was well and truly avenged with a comprehensive and comfortable victory.  It was a fantastic team performance all round, though James was probably our player of the match, not just for his goals, but for his vision in making some wonderful passes. Well done to all involved and especially to those enjoying their Year 6 debuts.

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT - JULY 2024

Over the past 7 weeks, around 50 children took part in a friendly football tournament.  Congratulations to the winning team, Blaze FC, who are pictured below:

FOOTBALL NEWS - JUNE 2024

Our girls are approaching the final few games of a long season.  They played a ‘doubleheader’ earlier this week against St Edmund Campion: after a 3-1 defeat in the first game, they played like a different team in the second match, drawing 1-1, but with numerous chances to win.  It was a good way to finish, with Robert Miles and a trophy at stake on Friday evening…

NETBALL TOURNAMENT - JUNE 2024

On the last day of term, the Year 6 netball team had the opportunity to play in the Nottinghamshire County Netball Tournament. The girls were up against some tough competition, but they played extremely well, even prompting the organiser to comment on how well they played! We missed out on a medal this time, but everyone had a great time.

FOOTBALL NEWS - MAY 2024

Congratulations to our girls who braved the heavy rain yesterday evening to earn a well-deserved victory away from home. It was a comfortable and composed performance with well-taken goals coming with a brace from Sophia, and one each for Éabha and Rebecca, whilst Eve was awarded ‘Player of the Match’.  The rematch is next week, along with the ‘biggie’ against Robert Miles, where our girls will be seeking to retain the ‘Gilbey Cup’… amongst many other events during our Sport & Wellbeing Week!

HANDBALL FESTIVAL - APRIL 2024

Well done to the children who attended the Handball Festival at South Notts Academy yesterday.  This event was an introduction to the game of handball, with a series of non-competitive games and activities.

FOOTBALL NEWS - APRIL 2024

It was a great morning’s work for our girls at the Ruddington tournament last weekend.  With three wins, a draw and a defeat, the girls finished the group in second place - a fantastic achievement - well done girls!

FOOTBALL NEWS - APRIL 2024

The girls’ cup run came to an abrupt end at the quarter-final stage last night against a strong Radcliffe team.  Our girls played pretty well, but unfortunately, just lost out to a better team on the night.  Star player on the night was Alissa: with plenty to do, she put in a very strong performance in defence.

FOOTBALL NEWS - APRIL 2024

The year 5 boys’ team played against Radcliffe on Monday evening in what was their first game of the year.  They showed great spirit and teamwork to get a 2-2 draw, and we even hit the post 3 times in the last five minutes!  The goals were scored by Ronnie and Carter and 'Player of the Match' was George M.  Well done boys!

NETBALL MATCH - APRIL 2024

On Thursday, the Carnarvon netball team had a friendly match against Edwalton.  We could put out two teams, which meant everyone got a chance to participate.

The girls played some fantastic netball and it was a pleasure to watch.  We made consistent passes, created spaces, and made some super interceptions.  It also must be said that our shooters were on fire!

We won the first match 19-1 and the second 7-2.  Congratulations to Emily O and Heidi C on being nominated as fair players.  It was also great to have so many parents spectating for both teams.

FRIENDLY FOOTBALL LEAGUE - APRIL 2024

Congratulations to all the Year 5 children who took part in the recent 'Year 5 Friendly League'.  The event was efficiently organised and run by the Year 6 Sports Ambassadors over the course of the spring term.  A BIG thank you to all Year 5s who played in the spirit of the event, ensuring inclusion, friendliness and enjoyment.  And finally, congratulations to the winning team (pictured):  Class on Grass FC (who also happened to be decent on the tarmac of the ball court too!)

BOYS FOOTBALL - APRIL 2024

Yesterday, the boys’ team travelled to Robert Miles for a match, as part of the Rushcliffe mini league.  The boys were outstanding- all nine of them. Sidney opened the scoring in the first half from a George M corner, and he scored again before half time.  After the break Sidney completed his hat trick with one of the best hat trick goals you're ever likely to see, before James C and Ted (2) added goals of their own, for a final score line of 6-1!  'Player of the match' could easily have gone to Zac, who again displayed great leadership skills and a sporting attitude that epitomises a Carnarvon pupil.  But of course, it goes to Sidney for his magnificent hat trick.  Huge well done to all the boys!

BOYS FOOTBALL - APRIL 2024

The Boys’ team took on Radcliffe as part of the Rushcliffe mini league.  In the first half, the boys played some excellent football, but just couldn't get the ball over the line and into the net! Radcliffe managed to get their noses in front just before half time, and scored again with almost the last kick of the game for a final score of 2-0.  Lots of positives for the boys to take into their game against Robert Miles!  Player of the match for Carnarvon was Zac, who showed fantastic determination throughout the game and a super sporting attitude.

BOYS’ FOOTBALL - APRIL 2024

Last Friday, the Carnarvon Boys’ B Team took on the Radcliffe Boys’ B Team in what was an incredibly close game! The boys fought very hard all through the game and were unfortunate to be on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line.  Ted got the goal for Carnarvon and Finley B was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his endless energy and tackling.

Well done boys!

MULTI-SKILLS FESTIVAL - MARCH 2024

Some of our children attended a Multi-Skills Festival at Nottingham Trent University Campus yesterday.  Students from the university who are learning to be coaches, put on the event and the children enjoyed taking part in a variety of games.

INDOOR FESTIVAL - MARCH 2024

After school on Tuesday, Mrs Clarke took Megan, Ava, Ethan and Rueben from Year 5, and Esther, Lyla, Sophie and Holly from Year 6, to a multi-skills event at Toot Hill School.  The children had fun playing team games against children from West Bridgford, Lady Bay and Gunthorpe schools. They all showed real team spirit, worked hard and had lots of fun!

INDOOR ROWING FESTIVAL - MARCH 2024

On Wednesday, eight of our Year 6s took part in an Indoor Rowing event at South Wolds in Keyworth.  It was the first time representing Carnarvon for some of the children and a great time was had by all.  The children really improved their technique and speed as the event went on!

CARNARVON SWIMMERS ARE A SCHOOL OF FISH! - FEBRUARY 2024

A big event on the school sporting calendar, the gala, is a great opportunity for club swimmers to showcase their talents whilst representing Carnarvon - and what talent they have!

Against 14 other schools from around Nottinghamshire, Carnarvon finished in 1st place - an incredible achievement!

A special mention for Martha in Year 5, who filled in for us at the very last minute - literally - which turned out to be a very good decision!  Thanks also to Mrs Cavan and Mrs Archer for their help on the day and to those parents providing transport.  We were very pleased to hear that all of the children were very well behaved and had exceptional manners throughout.

A great morning’s work, everyone!

CROSS-COUNTRY - FEBRUARY 2024

An amazing turnout of runners from Carnarvon at Wollaton Park last Friday (including 30 solely from Year 4) and with races each featuring around 200 runners.  It was a fantastic experience for all concerned, especially for those representing their school for the first time and running in their very first cross-country event.  There were some notable medal successes too, with Edith in 2nd place for the Year 4 girls and Harry 4th for the boys.  Toby was victorious yet again to win the Year 5/6 race and Freddie came 3rd.  Carnarvon also received medals in 3 out of the 4 races for the team events.  And finally, a special mention for Éabha who finished 6th in the Year 6 girls’ race then also ran the following day for ‘Team Rushcliffe’ finishing 8th in the whole County - fantastic, Éabha!

ATHLETICS FINAL - FEBRUARY 2024

On Tuesday we had another successful night in the sports hall, this time for our ‘Aces’ team who finished 3rd in the Rushcliffe Final - a fantastic achievement and a fitting reward for their efforts in recent training.

ATHLETICS FINAL - FEBRUARY 2024

It was a fantastic evening for ‘Carnarvon Braves’ yesterday after qualifying for the final; our Year 6 children finished in second place, which was a fantastic achievement and a fitting reward for their efforts in our training sessions.  Well done to all of you!

Also a very BIG thank you to the parents who were able to transport the children to the event in Wilford.  We are heavily reliant upon parental support for our events and it is always very much appreciated.

BASKETBALL FESTIVAL - JANUARY 2024

On Tuesday we took a small number of children to an indoor Basketball Festival at The Becket School.  They played friendly games against a number of schools within the Rushcliffe area.  They all enjoyed the festival, and we were very proud of their good behaviour and lovely manners.

Well done to you all!!

SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS EVENT - JANUARY 2024

Congratulations to our 18 Sportshall athletes who competed in the heats on Monday night at South Notts Academy, earning special praise from the organisers for their impeccable behaviour.  Both teams now go on to compete in their respective ’Finals Night’ in a couple of weeks.  A special mention to both Charlotte and Carter, who were representing Carnarvon for the very first time - a proud moment for them!

CROSS-COUNTRY - DECEMBER 2024

A BIG ‘thank you’ to the 27 runners (a Carnarvon record) who rose early and made the long trip to Berry Hill last Saturday to run in the rain and mud with such resilience and determination - you were all AMAZING! 1st and 2nd in the league for boys and 3rd place for girls.

MULTI-SKILLS FESTIVAL - DECEMBER 2024

Some children from Year 4 attended a Multi-skills Festival at South Notts. Academy yesterday, where they thoroughly enjoyed fun activities and problem-solving together.  Four other schools attended and Carnarvon joined them in a final, whole-group ‘rock, paper, scissors’ game that was brilliant.  As usual, all of the children who attended were fantastic role models and they enjoyed every minute.

Well done!!

CROSS-COUNTRY - NOVEMBER 23

Yet another record turn-out at Berry Hill last weekend, including lots of runners from Year 4.  The boys continue to dominate the league; our three teams lie in first, second and fifth place, with Toby leading the individual table.

A huge turnout from Carnarvon girls has boosted their chances of a medal too, with our highest-positioned team currently lying in third place.

The final race is on Saturday morning, 9th December.

FOOTBALL NEWS - NOVEMBER 23

After their defeat to Radcliffe last week, the boys’ football team travelled to Robert Miles for their second Rushcliffe Schools league match.  Carnarvon got off to a flyer and were 2-0 up inside ten minutes thanks to goals from George M (5L) and James C (5A)!  Robert Miles managed to pull a goal back in the first half, but the game finished 2-1 to Carnarvon, thanks to excellent determination from all of the lads, and some fine saves from Goalkeeper Finlay S (6H).  ‘Player of the Match’ was Sidney (6H), who chased every ball down and didn't leave any energy on the field!

Well done to the team!

CARNARVON BOYS’ FOOTBALL - NOVEMBER 2023

On Friday 10th November, Carnarvon Boys played against Radcliffe in our first league match.  We were excellent in the first half with a score of 1-0 at half-time, thanks to a great team goal started by George M in 5L, and finished by Toby in 6H.  In the second half, Radcliffe fought back and were victorious over us with 3-1 win.  Plenty of positives for the boys to take away though, ready for their next league game against Robert Miles, which is taking place today.  Good luck boys!

SPORTS AMBASSADORS - NOVEMBER 2023

A lovely day today to unveil our new Sports Ambassadors, resplendent in their new t-shirts.

Congratulations to them on their appointment; they’ll be involved in supporting and organising many sporting activities over the course of this year.

GIRLS’ FOOTBALL BEFORE HALF-TERM

Carnarvon Girls’ Football 19/10/2023

Nottingham High School 1 – 6 Carnarvon

“On Thursday the 19th October 2023, Carnarvon successfully won a football match against Nottingham High School.  The following people that played the match were Eabha, Isla, Sophie P, Alissa, Holly L, Eve and Charlotte B.

The score was 6-1 to us and the people who scored were Eabha (1), Isla (1), Eve (1) and Rebecca (3).

We all played very well, and since we did so good we won a chocolate cookie and a drink (delicious).  Throughout the whole match we were doing some amazing tackles and great defending.  Our goalie, Charlotte B, did some amazing saves and only let one in.  We had a very fun match and everyone played amazing.”

Match report written by Eabha.

CARNARVON BOYS V GREYTHORN - OCTOBER 2023

Carnarvon Boys 3 - 5 Greythorn

Trailing 0-4 at halftime, our lads had a bit of work to do.  A magnificent second half deserved more than the 3 goals that they did score, but despite the defeat, they left the field knowing that they had put on a thoroughly entertaining game for parents on the touchline.

CROSS-COUNTRY AT BERRY HILL PARK - OCTOBER 2023

It’s been a very long time since Carnarvon have managed to field 3 girls’ teams and 3 boys’ teams for a Saturday morning event - brilliant!

And what a morning it turned out to be: Toby won the boys’ race and was followed in by another 6 Carnarvon boys all finishing in the top 13 places. Our A & B teams stand in first and second place in the league.

A special mention to Edith and Harry, who both finished in the top 20 in their respective races - fantastic running given they are Year 4 children in a Year 5/6 race!

As always, thank you to the parents for the lengthy journey to the venue and to the children for their commitment to a school event early on a Saturday morning - you did us proud!

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT - SEPTEMBER 2023
Pictured here are the girls who competed at the Ruddington tournament last Saturday morning.

They had a great morning of football, showing some wonderful passing and excellent teamwork in the 4 games they played.  We are looking forward to seeing them shine in their next game.

Well done to you all!!

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT - SEPTEMBER 2023

Last Saturday some of our Year 6 boys played in the Ruddington tournament.  They finished 2nd out of 6 in their group, and were unlucky not to get through to the semi-finals.  Ted was the ‘Player of the Tournament’, scoring two important goals.

FOOTBALL NEWS JUNE 23....

CARNARVON v ROBERT MILES

On Tuesday, Year 5 played against Robert Miles.  The final score was     5-1 to Carnarvon with goals scored by: Ted (2),  Sidney (2) and Toby (1).  The ‘Man of the Match’ was Finley S, who made some excellent saves and kept us in the lead.  Well done everyone!!

YEAR 3 FOOTBALL

Match Report by Jake 3M:
I was a member of the Year 3 football team against Robert Miles School.  We won 3-0!  The team played brilliantly and we were very proud to represent Carnarvon in our first football match.  We all tried our best and were so pleased with the result!

YEAR 4 FOOTBALL

Match report by Carter 4S

We played against Robert Miles and in the first few seconds we scored 1 goal, then a few more before half-time.  In the second half, we played great football and by the full time whistle, we had scored 6 goals.  The final score was 6-0 and we won the Alex Munn trophy.  We had a picture taken with the trophy.  Well done everyone!!

FOOTBALL NEWS MAY 23....

CARNARVON GIRLS v BARNABY ROAD

We are really proud of the way the girls have played throughout this year, they have reached 3 semi-finals (the Rushcliffe Cup, the County Cup and the Semi-Final of the Ruddington tournament.  What a successful year you have had.

Last nights match against Barnaby Road ended in a 3-0 loss, but the girls showed a lot of fighting spirit and played really well!

CARNARVON 6 - 0 HEYMANN

It was a comfortable game in which the girls dominated from start to finish, though a tough game awaits in the semi-final...

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT

What a great tournament that the boys had: winning 4 games and drawing the other in the group stages, they qualified for the semi-final as group winners!  Facing a very good Ruddington side, they lost 2 - 0, but could still go home with their heads held high after a good morning's work!  Well done boys!

CARNARVON 1 - 9 TOLLERTON

Carnarvon played against National Finalists - Tollerton!  Carnarvon had the 'audacity' to score first, though that was like kicking a hornets' nest as an excellent Tollerton side dominated the rest of the game.

CARNARVON 0 - 4 CANDLEBY LANE

Yesterday, Carnarvon Year 6 boy’s played in the County Cup quarter-final match which was held at home.  They played really well against strong opposition but sadly,  didn't end the game as they would have liked.  Well done to everyone who played and it was great to see Saint and Lukus making their belated school debuts!!

FOOTBALL NEWS APRIL 2023…..

CARNARVON v CANDLEBY LANE

It was a confident performance in the sunshine from our girls (and a hat trick from Grace) as they breezed into the semi-final of the Rushcliffe Cup last Friday.  We are sure much stiffer competition awaits!  Go girls!

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT

On Saturday morning, the girls’ football team played at the Ruddington Tournament.

They won the group stages with 3 wins and Juliet keeping 3 clean sheets in goal.  The girls played some really nice football with lots of shots on goal and some really strong defending, reaching the semi –finals where we faced Lady Bay.

The semi-final was a really fast-paced game and the girls worked really hard, but Lady Bay came out on top.

Well done girls!!

YEAR 5 AND 6 FOOTBALL MATCH AT BINGHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL

On Tuesday, some of our Year 5 and 6 children took part in a friendly football match against Bingham Primary School.  Well done to everyone who played, we are pleased to say that we won the match 4-0.  Arthur scored 2 and  Finley A and Jasper scored 1.  The ‘Player of the Match’ was awarded to Holly.

Well done everyone!!

FOOTBALL NEWS - MARCH 2023

Carnarvon Girls 2 - 0 Robert Miles

A confident and dominant display from our girls, with goals from Eva and Scarlett, sealed a well-deserved victory and a trophy against our local ‘rivals’.

Carnarvon Boys 2 - 4 Robert Miles

A fair result against a strong Robert Miles side.  Only some incredible goalkeeping from Flynn kept the score to 0-1 at half-time.  A fantastic fight back and two goals from Max put Carnarvon in front for a while, but Robert Miles finished strongly as deserved winners.

Carnarvon and Robert Miles have been competing for these two trophies since 2012; given the impending retirement of the Headteacher at Robert Miles, we have renamed these trophies “The Gilbey Cups” in recognition of the close sporting ties between these two schools over the years and the role that Mr Gilbey has played in that.

NETBALL NEWS - MARCH 2023

Carnarvon Netball Team has taken part in two netball tournaments in the last two weeks.

I was immensely proud of all the girls for getting involved because, for the majority, it was their first ever proper match.  The first tournament was at Nottingham High School and it was incredible to see the improvement after the first game, and by the end of day, real progress had been made, resulting in three fantastic goals by Bella and Freya, winning the match for Carnarvon. Special mention to Juliette who was awarded ‘Fair Player’ in our group.

The second tournament was at Nottingham Girls High School and the girls continued to develop their skills, winning another match and drawing second in our group (we ended up coming third due to goal difference).  A lot of fun was had by all the girls and they really did Carnarvon proud.  Finally, thank you to the parents that helped with lifts.”

Mrs Bailey.

FOOTBALL FESTIVAL - MARCH 2023

A cold (but heart-warming) afternoon at Nottingham High on Monday where our Year 4 boys were in action at a football festival.  Great to see so much young talent in action as they won two and drew two of their four games.  Congratulations to Max who collected the Players’ Player award from the organisers.

SWIMMING GALA - FEBRUARY 2023

Congratulations to our swimmers for a great result last Monday.  In a gala involving 10 schools, it was great performances all round.  Carnarvon secured 3rd place and received a nice medal for their efforts.  The gala represents a great opportunity for Bingham Swimming Club members to represent the school, which they did with pride and aplomb!  Well done all of you!

WOLLATON PARK CROSS-COUNTRY EVENT - FEBRUARY 2023

A great afternoon out at Wollaton Park for our runners on the last day of last half-term.  It was lovely to see so many runners representing school for the first time and a special mention to Olivia in Year 5 who has made such fantastic progress in just a few months of running.

A great team performance from the Year 4 girls who won gold medals and a rather nice ‘Team Winners’ trophy for the cabinet!

As usual, Toby and Loxley battled it out for first and second (what an amazing season those two boys have had!), finishing with gold and silver respectively in another photo finish!

Thank you again to the parents who supported the event in such great numbers - we’d have never got there without you!

CROSS-COUNTRY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS - FEBRUARY 2023

Congratulations to our Carnarvon runners who represented Rushcliffe in the County Championships last Saturday - a wonderful achievement.

A special mention to Siena and Loxley, who finished 4th and 8th respectively in their races and now go on to represent Nottinghamshire at the forthcoming Nationals!  The very best of luck for that!

YEAR 6 ATHLETICS FINAL - FEBRUARY 2023

After qualifying for the finals in second place, our Year 6 athletics team went one better by achieving gold on Finals Night. Great performances all round, against some tough large-school opposition. Thank you very much to the parents that provided transport and also to our team coaches: Miss Wrate and Mrs Sadler.

ATHLETICS EVENT - JANUARY 2023

Last Friday some of our Year 6 children took part in an Athletics event at South Nottinghamshire Academy and finished 2nd out of 8 teams.  They will now compete in the final on 6th February.

CROSS-COUNTRY BERRY HILL - DECEMBER 2022

It was cold, bright and frosty conditions for the last of the autumn cross-country series; another great turn-out and some medal-winning performances from our runners:

Loxley was the overall winner of the whole series (from all Nottinghamshire schools taking part!) with Toby a very (very!) close second place. Our boys also won overall team gold, with special mentions for Freddie (Year 4!) and Zack (Year 5), finishing an overall 7th and 8th over all three races.

The girls also enjoyed their successes too: Siena was overall 3rd place and our girls’ team finished second overall.

Absolutely fantastic results and a deserved reward for their commitment to Carnarvon in attending three early-morning Saturday events - Mr Hall is very proud of you all!

CROSS-COUNTRY TRIAL - DECEMBER 2022

Our fastest Year 5 and 6 runners were invited to take part in a trial for the Rushcliffe team at the forthcoming County Championships event.
Pitching themselves against the very best runners that the Rushcliffe region has to offer, Carnarvon ran races to be proud of.  All four of our attending girls - Siena (who won the girls’ race) Matilda, Éabha and Freya all qualified for the Rushcliffe team (of 12 runners) along with Toby and Loxley - who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Congratulations to all of our participating runners; what talent we have here at Carnarvon!

FOOTBALL - NOVEMBER 2022

Carnarvon Girls 2 - 4 Edmund Campion

Carnarvon Boys 0 - 2 Edmund Campion

A double-header in the constant heavy rain and cold on Monday night and two defeats for Carnarvon in the Rushcliffe mini-league.  Conditions were tough, but both games were competitive, though both results were fair given two very good Campion teams.  Unfortunately - as the photo shows - the boys shrank in the rain and will need to grow a bit if they want to keep a clean sheet in the next game!

BERRY HILL CROSS-COUNTRY EVENT - NOVEMBER 2022

Last weekend was Carnarvon’s BEST-EVER school turn-out in 17 years of Saturday cross-country at the Berry Hill league meeting.  What a way to celebrate our achievement: Toby from Year 5 and Loxley from Year 6 were virtually inseparable all the way to the finish and picked up first and second place; Year 4 Freddie finished in the top 10 and the boys’ team lie comfortably in first place in the league.

Siena in Year 6 had a PB finish of 3rd in the girls’ race and Year 5 Éabha finished 11th.

The girls currently lie 2nd in their league with the final race on 10th December.  It could be an exciting one……...

COUNTY CUP AWAY MATCH - OCTOBER 2022

On Monday our girls football team played an away match against Arnold View in the County Cup, here is the match report written by one of our Sports Ambassadors, Grace:

FOOTBALL NEWS - SEPTEMBER 2022

JESSIE GRAY 1 - 2 CARNARVON

Congratulations to our girls after their fantastic win last night. 1-0 down at half-time, but they fought back magnificently in the second half and two wonderfully taken goals - one in the dying seconds of the game- by Freya, clinched their place in the next round.

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT

A great morning of football last Saturday as our girls completed their group games undefeated and without conceding a single goal.  As with these tournaments though, even with such great game stats, it still wasn’t enough to progress to the semis, but we finished a very creditable second place.  Well done girls.

RUDDINGTON TOURNAMENT - SEPTEMBER 2022

It was a beautiful morning for a football tournament last Saturday, and on this occasion it was more about the taking part than the winning!  All of the games were very close and given that many of the boys had not played together before, they did incredibly well. Team spirit and smiles were in abundance and the boys did themselves proud.
Well done to you all!!

FUTSAL FESTIVAL - FEBRUARY 2019

It was a lovely evening of football for our Year 6 girls in the Rushcliffe Futsal Festival last night. The results included a mixture of wins, draws and defeats.  Clearly this didn’t matter, as they played with beaming smiles on their faces throughout the event. Well done to you all!

Some of our children took part in a multi-skills festival on Thursday morning. They all had a great time, put in 100% effort and were a credit to Carnarvon with their team spirit and lovely manners. Well done to you all!!

TAG RUGBY - NOVEMBER 2018

We took part in a super-organised Tag Rugby Festival at the High School last Friday. Our Year 5 girls and boys were superb, both on and off the pitch. They were respectful to all players and staff involved in the event and played some fabulous rugby too. The winning and gold medals were just a little (deserved) bonus! Well done everyone!!

SWIMMING GALA - FEBRUARY 2018

Well done to all the children who represented Carnarvon in the swimming gala which took place on 15th February. It was a very noisy and excitable event and that was just from the parent supporters!!

Overall we came 3rd. Well done everyone!!
