Carnarvon Primary School

Music

The intent of our Music Curriculum is to:

  • Develop the confidence to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians

  • Foster the ability to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others.

  • Provide the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence

  • Deliver the knowledge and understanding of how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

  • Encourage a passion for, and commitment to, a diverse range of musical activities.

The implementation of our Music Curriculum:

The intended impact of our Music Curriculum is that:

By the end of KS2, we aim for children to have developed a love of music and increased levels of well-being and confidence. Children will have been given the opportunity to participate in wider musical activities. They will gain confidence through performance opportunities in school and within the community. Children will be exposed to, and inspired by, different genres of music. They will also analyse and compose a variety of music. Children will also have had the opportunity to play a variety of tuned and un-tuned instruments.
