Welcome to Year 5 Summer Term!
We have a really exciting Summer Term this year! Our overall topic is Groundbreaking Greeks and within this we will be looking at how the people lived in Ancient Greece, as well as the Gods and Goddesses that they believed in, and all of the things that they invented that we still use today.
We have a 'Greek Day' in the second half of the Summer Term, where the children take part in an Olympic Games in the morning and try lots of Greek food in the afternoon - it is always a great day. They will also get a chance to create their very own Greek temple in DT.
In other areas of the curriculum, we look at geometry, shape, negative numbers and capacity as we continue to follow the White Rose scheme in Maths. In English, the children will create their own Greek myths, write odes and comedic playscripts (which are hilarious every year!)
In Science, our topic is 'Properties and Changes in Materials,' which gives the children lots of opportunities to take part in practical science, as they research thermal conductors, sieving and mixing amongst other things.
Away from the classroom, we will be doing lots of practising for the Year 5 and 6 end of year production of: 'Primary School Musical', which promises to be great!
There is lots to look forward to this term and we are sure the children will really enjoy it!
