Year 5

Welcome to Year 5 Autumn Term!

We have a really exciting Autumn Term this year! Our overall topic is Dynamic Dynasties, and within this we will be looking at how the people lived in the Ancient Chinese Shang Dynasty, as well as the Gods they believed in, and how they worshipped.

In other areas of the curriculum, we look at place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division as we follow the White Rose scheme in Maths. In English, the children will create their own mystical story inspired by Narnia, write a biography about the legendary Chinese warrior Fu Hao, and write time travel stories going back to the Shang Dynasty.

In Science, our topics are 'Forces and Mechanisms' and 'Space and Earth,' which gives the children a great balance of practical activities and understanding the universe.

Please browse the Autumn knowledge organisers below for information on all of our wider curriculum this term.

Away from the classroom, we will once again by doing our annual 'Yule Log' competition just before Christmas, a real highlight for the children every year.

We will also be doing our second annual Year 5 camp out! The date is TBC. The children will stay at school after 3:20 and take part in lots of activities and eat some dinner before camping out on the field! Last year, the majority of the children in Year 5 highlighted that this was the best part of being in Year 5!

There is lots to look forward to this term, and we are sure the children will really enjoy it!

Meet the Teacher 2026

Year 5 enjoyed perfect conditions on the 1st of July for a day of fun on and in the water at Notts County Sailing Club. The children got to sail in the larger boats, tried their hand at sailing the smaller Picos and enjoyed getting thoroughly wet in the paddleboard relay. We must say a huge 'Thank You' to all the members at NCSC who gave up their time and energy to put together and run this popular event. Also, our parent helpers, who not only provided the transport, but supported the children shoreside and on the larger boats.
