Year 5

Welcome to Year 5 Spring Term!

We have a really exciting Spring Term planned this year! Our overall topic is Sow, Grow and Farm and within this we will be looking at farming, allotments, and seasonal fruit and veg, which culminates in the children making their own soup!

In other areas of the curriculum, we look at area and perimeter, fractions and multiplication and division as we follow the White Rose scheme in Maths. In English, the children will create their very own restaurant with a USP (unique selling point) and write a persuasive leaflet for it; they will also use this in computing, where they will get the chance to design their own logo and menu, as well as being able to record a short advert!

In Science, we will be studying 'human reproduction and ageing.' Within this, the children will learn about life cycles, puberty and sexual reproduction. If you have any questions about this topic, or how we are going to approach teaching it, please don't hesitate to ask.

Please browse the Spring knowledge organisers below for information on all of our wider curriculum this term.

Away from the classroom, as mentioned previously, we will be going up to Toot Hill to make soup in March, as well as going to Screveton Eco-Farm in March or April. The exact date for this is yet to be confirmed.

We will also be doing our third-annual year 5 science fair! This will take place on Friday 13th March during national science week and is an excellent chance for the children to showcase their love of science. This is something that they do at home for a number of weeks before bringing their project into school to showcase for the judges. For more information on the science fair, or to see some projects by children over the last couple of years, please view the PowerPoint below.

There is lots to look forward to this term, and we are sure the children will really enjoy it!
