Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to our Year 1 Web Page. We're excited for our spring term and have lots of exciting learning ahead of us. Here is what we will be learning about this term:
- Our main topic this term is “Bright Lights, Big City". We will be using lots of geographical skills to find out the physical and human characteristics of the United Kingdom. It will include a detailed exploration of the characteristics and features of the capital city, London.
- In phonics, we are working incredibly hard each day to learn new sounds and tricky words to help us on our wonderful journey of reading and writing.
- In English, we will be developing our skills in sentence writing - focusing on letter formation, capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. In particular we will be working on writing sentences in stories, postcards and captions.
- Our learning in maths will focus on place value (to 20 and 50), addition and subtraction, length and height, mass and volume.
- In science, this term we will be teaching about the seasons, seasonal changes and typical seasonal weather and events. The children begin to learn about the science of day and night and recognise that the seasons have varying day lengths in the UK.
- In art, we will learning about collagraphs and learning how to print simple and repeating patterns.
- In computing, children will be giving a list of instructions and programming a small floor robot.
