Spring Term 2026

Happy New Year, we have lots of exciting learning happening this term and can't wait to get going!

Our Spring Term Topic across both half-terms is the History topic "Britain at War". This covers: First and Second World Wars; Causes; Warring nations; Weaponry, warfare and technology; Key events and battles; Impact on citizens and everyday life; Significant leaders; End of war; Local history study; Remembrance; Post-war Britain.

During writing lessons we will first finish our previous Titanic writing and then move on to "writing to describe so the reader feels the tension" when writing from the perspective of a field hospital nurse. We will then "write to instruct so the reader knows what do" when writing what to do during an Air Raid. Finally, we will "write to describe so the reader empathises when describing the Blitz from the perspective of a Londoner.  

During whole class reading we will be sharing the following texts: Continuing reading Malamander (Thomas Taylor), Letters from a Lighthouse (Emma Carroll) and looking at the Non-fiction text WW2 (Conrad Mason). 

In Maths, we continue to follow the White Rose scheme of work with Mrs Cartwright's maths group first finishing Fractions. We have the number topics:  decimals, percentages, algebra and ratio as well as the measurement topics of converting units, permieter, area and volume. We will continue our weekly arithmetic practice and opportunities to revise topics on Mathletics. To support your child with Maths at home, we have added some helpful workbooks which you can download below.

 

In Science, we will be learning about The Light Theory, Evolution and Inheritance. During PSHE our two topics are: VIP's (respecting people who are important) and "think positive". Our Art topic is "Bees, butterflies and beetles. During R.E we will be covering the religions of Hinduism and Islam through the religious festivals/moments of Kumbh Mela and Lailat al-Miraj.

During PE, Year 6 will continue to enjoy their weekly lesson with Mr Hall and Mrs Cartwright- the focus this term is Gymnastics and Net/wall games (Volleyball).
