Last Saturday, in weather that was far too pleasant and dry for cross-country, a few of our stalwart Year 4,5 & 6's turned out for the school, for the start of the autumn cross-country league. Great running from our girls, whilst our boys put in a tremendous team performance, placing them at the top of the league table in the first of three events. Thanks for your efforts everyone. Same time next month then...

Incredible performances at Rushcliffe Country Park on Tuesday by all of our runners resulted in Carnarvon winning both the boys' and the girls' race - an amazing achievement! There were 30 teams involved in each race; our boys' B and C teams finished 10th and 11th and girls' teams 6th and 20th, showing the strength in depth of our teams.  Our runners are now looking forward to the Berry Hill League, which starts on Saturday 7th October…. Good luck everybody!!

Some of our Year 5 and 6 girls played a football match last week, the results are as follows:-

7 girls (captained by Ruby)

6 goals 'for' (only 1 'against')

5 games played (3 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat)

4 goals scored by Chloe

3 debutantes (Alisha, Lara & Louise)

2 other goals (Brooke & Erin)

1 great morning of football!

Well done to you all!!

A lovely morning of football for our Y6 boys at the autumn Ruddington tournament: they won two, drew two, lost one and finished narrowly second in the group to miss out on the semi-final. All the boys had a great time, with some excellent performances and no injuries!

Well done boys!

Carnarvon's athletes enjoyed yet another successful athletics meeting last Wednesday. Entering the competition as winners for the last two years, our children made it a hat-trick of victories with some great performances against the best athletes from other schools in the Toot Hill 'family'.

All of the individual event winners will now go on to represent a Toot Hill family 'superteam' on 17th July, competing against other teams throughout Rushcliffe.

A great turnout from a number of local schools and some glorious sunshine contributed to a lovely evening of races. Notable performances included a 5th place for Hannah from 3D and a 1st-2nd-3rd (WOW!) for Marcus from 3CF, Henry from 3D and Matthew from 3CF in the Year 3 races. 1st and 3rd for Maisy from 4C and Lily from 4A alongside a 1st place for George from 4A reflected a strong Year 4 performance and there was a 2nd place for Isabel from 5Mc. It was also great to see Cameron from 6H finish in a well deserved 2nd place in his final race for Carnarvon. A 'big thank you' to all of the Carnarvon runners who turned out for their school and to the staff and parents who supported the event.

Carnarvon Girls 5 - 3 Robert Miles Carnarvon Boys 3 - 1 Robert Miles

Our regular Sports Week football fixtures against Robert Miles kicked off with our girls achieving a comfortable victory wrapped up early on with a 5 - 0 first half performance and a hat trick from Poppy in Year 5.
Our Year 6 boys showed tremendous spirit and determination in their finely balanced match to turn a 0-1 half-time deficit into a 3-1 victory, with Daniel P, Daniel W and Leo worthy of a special mention for their wonderful performances.
Congratulations to both teams on retaining the trophies from last year!

Well done to Ciara, Mia, Logan and Christopher who proudly represented Carnarvon recently in the Rushcliffe Boccia Festival. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all, with Ciara, in particular, having a real eye for the sport!

Well done to the four of you!

On Thursday 23rd February 32 children from KS2 took part in the County Gala, held at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre, performing a variety of individual races and relays. There was a great atmosphere, with lots of splashing and spluttering and our pupils should be proud of the sporting way they conducted themselves throughout the event. Fifth place overall was an excellent result. Well done everyone!

Congratulations to all of our rowers who completed their third and final round of the competition. Whilst we weren't in the medals on this occasion (they usually go to schools with rowing machines!), it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for our Year 6s.

Round 2 of the Year 6 rowing took place earlier this week. After last term's practice session, this week was a little more competitive, though they're saving their biggest strokes for next week's final! Pictured below are some of the team.

Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 girl footballers who took part in a Futsal (a heavy football!) festival. One win, one draw, two defeats and six smiley faces was a good return from the evening's activity. Well done girls!

2016 SPORTS NEWS......

Langar 0 - 7 Carnarvon - November 2016

Our girls eased through to the last 8 of the Rushcliffe Girls’ Football Cup last Friday with a

comfortable victory. There were many highlights in the evening gloom: Brooke's hat-trick, Isabel's free kick, Poppy's solo effort and a fine Lucy Baker debut. No photo though - it was too dark!

High School Y5 Boys’ Tag Rugby Festival - November 2016

Congratulations to our mixed Y5 team who went one better than last year's runners up position to claim top spot in this year's competition. The team have recently spent several lunchtimes learning the game 'from scratch', making their tournament victory all the more remarkable. Well done team - you fully deserved your success!

Berry Hill Cross Country - November 2016

Crisp, cold and sunny - a great morning for cross country last Saturday with a good turnout of Y3-6 children. A special mention to Lucy McKenzie, who 'just had one of those races' and improved 20 places on her last run here - a great run Lucy and the rest of the Carnarvon team!

“It was a great evening for me and my fellow members of the Y6 Athletics Team on Tuesday night.  We competed at the Becket School in a fun competition with many other teams from other schools, including Robert Miles.  Both girls’ and boys’ teams showed great effort in the races, coming 2nd and 3rd against two other teams in a race.

We all competed in the field events, in which everyone did very well.  At the end each school received an envelope with some very well deserved certificates that everyone in the Carnarvon team should be very proud of. Great work Carnarvon!”

By Yasmin Poyser from 6H.

Carnarvon, current holders of the Girls' County Cup, played their first round match last Friday evening against Newark side, Sir Donald Bailey. The team, a mix of Y4, 5 and 6 children, played some lovely football and dominated throughout their 8-0 victory, with goals from Brooke Morley, Poppy Morley and Maisy and Isabel Wynne. A great start to the season - well done girls!

“Year 6 boys had a great football match against Edmund Campion. All the boys worked really hard passing the ball and setting up some great goals. In the first half it was 3-0, leading to a final score of 5-0.  Well done Year 6 boys!”

Y3 & 4 Festival Of Football

A warm, sunny Autumn evening was the perfect occasion for 18 enthusiastic Y3 & 4 girls to try out a bit of football fun down at Keyworth FC. After a some basic skills and drills and a few mini games, our girls are now looking forward to their new Monday lunchtime football club back at Carnarvon!

Y6 Football News - September 2016

"On Saturday the YR6 boys went to St Peter's school in Ruddington to play a football tournament. The weather was a bit cold and wet, but they’re good conditions for football. We played 5 games won 2, drew 2 and lost 1. The last game, which was our only loss, was really close and we could have scored about 4 goals! We came second in our league to Gamston who we beat 1-0. The team played well together, some great defending, team spirit, runs and goals. We nearly made it to the semi –finals. A big thankyou to the parents for their support".
